For the past month or so, while checking in on my FLGS, I must have picked up the box of Greed each time I visited. Ultimately, I'd put it down and think 'Maybe next time.' I've always felt that I need at least one or two more quick playing games that offer some depth and based on my research Greed certainly seemed like it would fill that void in my collection and had an interesting theme.
For those that don't know, Greed (BGG Link) is a new card game made by Donald 'Dominion' X. Vaccarino. The game wasn't that expensive at my FLGS Legends Warehouse (unfortunately they don't have an online store) and it was under $30 with tax, which I suppose is a pretty average price for a card game. The card stock is nice and thick, good artwork, great card design. This is certainly not a game that you feel like you're overpaying for when it comes to component quality. Also, the box size isn't ridiculously huge compared to the number of cards in the box.

Rules for the game are dirt simple:
deal 12 cards to each player
for the first two rounds, draft a card, pass the deck to your left
starting with the third round, draft a card and play one of the cards from your hand
resolve cards based on their initiative (shown on the bottom right of the card)
So what did I like about the game? How to get a arizona drivers license.
Unlike a game like 7 Wonders, where you always play the card you draft, having a small hand of cards allows you to time combos more effectively, or, if you see a card an opponent may want, you can bury it in your hand while playing a previously selected card. It's a small change from the other card drafting games I've played, but I really enjoyed the options it presented.
Teaching the game is dirt simple. We were up and running within 5 minutes of opening the box with none of us having played the game before. While it took us a game to understand the potential combos, we were still having fun while picking cards without much of a head for strategy. In our second game, I think we all doubled or tripled our scores as we had a better eye for spotting card synergy.
With a main deck of around 80ish cards (also money cards and tokens in the box), there's quite a bit of variation in the game, and there's plenty of synergies to explore and try out. Of course, like most drafting games, the more you play it, the more familiar you get with cards, the more likely you'll be keeping an eye on your opponents' side of the table to spot cards to deny them from getting.

Overall, I think this game needs a little bit of love and attention around here (I haven't seen it mentioned much at all). The last thing I'd like to say that immediately after our first game, and our second game, and our third game, we wanted to play it again. For me, that's a sign of a quality game. A highly recommended quick playing / filler style game that offers lots of options.
